Got my trusty BIRDS OF BELIZE field guide in the mail, finally, so now I can officially ID all of those birds in the back yard.
Ray also saw several of these guys – Grooved Bill Anis – scarfing up some scorpions he rustled out of a wood pile on property. They have hard beaks kind of like parrots and just chewed ’em right up. Yum.
And speaking of scorpions…We’ve got a new game to play called “What’s Behind the Gas Can?” And the answer is, you just never know. The other day it was another huge black scorpion like the one I killed at the beach house. Today it was these two cane toads (I think that’s what they are, anyway).
As they say, never a dull moment in these parts…
